What is backcountry skiing?
Cross country skiing is a winter sport where one glides across domains covered with Snow Skis wearing and poles. It is a popular sport in countries that have large flat snow-covered areas such as northern Europe, the Canada, Alaska and the North-East Western United States. Cross country skiing is part of the Nordic skiing sport family, which includes ski jumping and a mix of ski jumping called Nordic combined skiing.

There are two techniques of cross country
- The classic technique -- skis are pushed from side to side with each other through the snow
- Free Technique - Skiers push as in Speed Skating pushing the edge of your skis. Shorter skis are used and free technique is slightly faster than the conventional technique.

The cons-skiing events in the country has been games competitions for men and women. There are individual sports team and is the largest number of events and presents a major source of Olympic medals. The winner is the athlete who completed the course in the shortest time. Here is an explanation of each type of competition format:
- Individual home: The skier uses a technique for free and every person who starts every 30 seconds.
- Mass start: All skiers will start at the same time and constitute a form of address. The best athletes are placed at the tip of the arrow. The station uses the classical technique.
- Exercise: Skiers start the race as in the case of starting mass. The race is a combination of classic technique and free technique. A mid-race skiers to move from classic free, including a change of skis and poles
- Individual sprint: using the classical technique event begins with a qualifying round where the top 30 skiers in the qualifying round for the quarter-final finish. This process continues in the semifinals, and A and B, finals. The first two skiers from each round will be upward move. The team included six athletes who compete for gold.
- Team Sprint: A team consists of two members who spend at sprint ski courses, three rounds each for a total of six rounds, using the free technique. The semifinal round is 10-15 teams in each race, the top five teams of two semi-finals will qualify for the end. Skiers must demonstrate the correct exchange between the towers by physically touching their teammate, without imposing on other computers.
- Of Relay: The team is composed of four members who ski in the first two stages of the transmission of classical technique and the last two segments relay freestyle. Why girls can not go skiing in the Olympics?
I read an article online today about how the Women were not allowed to ski in the Olympics. There was a lot of statistics about how the girls were jumping from the Wright sport, there are hundreds around the world compete at the international level, and most girls are even better than men. The article also talked of how not even dangerous, and many other sports that are much more dangerous than the competitors were women. This does not seem right. It is the only Sport Games Winter Olympics without the category of women. This seems ....?? discrimination
Here's the Wikipedia entry on jumping Ski the Olympic Games, noting in 2006 the request to include women: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ski_jumping_at_the_Winter_Olympics My feeling is that this is due to tradition. started ski jumping in Norway - has been an attraction "in the popular ski fairgrounds in 1800. That alone should lead us to infer men only then - and that is the format that was introduced at the Olympics. Ref: http://www.factmonster.com/spot/winter-olympics-ski-jumping.html Courses - The Olympics can be changed - and changed over the years. In ski jumping, the height of the hill has changed. More importantly, sports have added and removed. If sufficient demand and not enough room in the national-level events include ski jumping, women, and enough people participating - Then, when the IOC also agreed.

The Ancient Greek Olympics $8.98 The ancient Greeks were famous for their love of competition and athleticism. Their most important sporting festival, held at Olympia and honoring Zeus, became the inspiration for our modern Olympic games. It was open to the citizens of every Greek polis, and became so important, that all warfare had to be suspended for its duration. This book runs through the entire five-day session of the ancient games. The athletes' training and the actual sporting events--some familiar, some quite strange to the modern reader--are described in vivid detail and illustrated with both classical art from the collections of the British Museum and photographs of the modern Games. Day Two, for instance, starts with morning activities (a procession into the hippodrome, chariot and horse races), followed by the afternoon pentathlon events (discus, javelin, running, jumping, and wrestling), and ends with the evening celebration (winners' parade, victory hymns, feast, and revels). Supplemental sidebars--such as Homer's description of Odysseus' triumphant discus throw and an explanation of why athletes and trainers had to appear naked--add lively, colorful detail. Commentary on the modern Games and a running comparison of modern and ancient athletic events is scattered throughout the book, providing an important historical perspective on today's Olympics. Three supplemental chapters--"Women at the Olympics," "Games Elsewhere in Greece," and "The End of the Olympics"--complete this fascinating look at ancient Greek customs, competitive spirit, and character. |
